(PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN’S INAUGURATION)

WORLD Leaders congratulate U.S. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as the 46th president of the United States. The inaugural ceremony took place on the West Front of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. before noon on January 20, 2021 -- marking the commencement of the four-year term of Joe Biden as president, and Kamala Harris as vice president.  

Biden took the presidential oath of office, followed by Harris.

During his speech Biden said “Democracy has prevailed,” and he called for unity and to end an “uncivil war” in the wake of President Trump’s fractious leadership after four year in office.

In calling for Americans to come together as one nation, he implored the spirit of unity, saying, “we have much to heal, much to build and much to gain-- and Unity is the path forward.”

“We face an attack on our democracy and on truth. A raging virus, growing inequity, the sting of systemic racism, a climate in crisis. America’s role in the world. Any one of these would be enough to challenge us in profound ways. But the fact is, we face them all at once, presenting this nation with one of the gravest responsibilities we’ve had,

“I give you my word, I will always level with you. I will defend the Constitution. I’ll defend our democracy. I’ll defend America,” 

“And I pledge this to you, I will be a president for all Americans, all Americans --  I will fight as hard for those who did not support me as for those who did.” 

Congratulations to Joe Biden is the 46th and current president of the United States!
